Thanks. So, it would also be possible then to have the front page as the normal blog post page, and create a second page that can be used as the capture page?

The pages created are just like any other regular WordPress page, they just use a special template.
If you want it set as the front page you have to set it as such in the Reading Settings.

This looks pretty interesting. Does the capture page have to go on the front page, the page that would normally be where the blog posts are? Can it be put on another page?

Very interesting, I had never referred to these promotional opt-in pages as "squeeze pages" before. Learned a new term today, thank you!

I agree with the no external links, but you should have a Terms of use, Privacy and a contact us link at the bottom of your pages. Especially with the new regulations from the FTC. I usually put a link to the main blog as well.

@ Tracy
No, I'm not a big fan of wimpy squeeze pages, however, you need to have a link to your blog if your squeeze page is set as your static home page so the SE's can spider your site.

I usually add the Terms | Privacy | Contact Us | Blog links at the bottom.

Nice catch lol. I rarely use a non form contact due to spammers.

Great tips, all of them!

I'm guessing you're not a fan then of the "wimpy" squeeze pages that allow the user to click through if they really don't want to opt-in? As a copywriter, it's such a hard call when the squeeze page is in front of a typical website.

BTW--I notice you haven't added the non-form options to your Contact Us page yet! :)
